Overview
When you want to interact with the blockchain your wallet will prompt you to confirm you want to proceed with the transaction and contain some information about the transaction along with the cost to process it. This transaction fee is just the cost for the network to confirm the transaction and it is affected by how congested the network is, but also the specific network you are using plays a big part in this.
Additional to the cost the time it takes for a transaction to process is also dependant on the specific network you are using and how much gas is paid to process the transaction. On MetaMask you can specify how much gas you want to pay on each transaction, the higher the gas the more you pay but the quicker the transaction will be processed.
Gas is paid to validators which confirm your transaction on the blockchain and is a fundamental part of the web 3. Go to Your first transaction in the example menu to see one in action and give it a go yourself.

Wallets are your gateway to Web3. Any interactions you want to make with a blockchain will go through a wallet. Think of it as an 'account' where you hold your assets. Assets could be tokens or NFT's.
Below are guides of how to set up a MetaMask account. There will be more to follow but MetaMask is the most popular for EVM networks which are the most popular. (see the learning pages for what EVM is)
As with a traditional bank account if someone gains access to it they can remove all your funds. Always be vigilant and check out the security pages to educate on what to watch out for and how to keep yourself safe.

There are many wallets. Different networks use different wallets. Some networks have many different wallets with different features. It's down to personal preference on which you use but they all have similar set up procedures, similar to the MetaMask set up.
Here is a list of a handful...
| Wallet | Network(s) |
|---|---|
| Metamask | Ethereum, Fantom, Polygon, BNB, Optimism, Avalanche, and more... (All EVM networks) |
| TronLink | Tron |
| Phantom | Solana |
| Binance Wallet | BNB |
| Coinbase Wallet | Ethereum |
| ZilPay | Zilliqa |
To recover a wallet you simply have to enter the 12 words you saved earlier on. Thats why its so important to keep these safe and secure. If anyone else gets hold of them they have full and complete access to you wallet and its contents and can simply move everything out to a different wallet.
